Daniel Thon Duop is a passionate health professional and advocate for universal health coverage, with more than 20 years of experience leading public and community health services, health promotion, and disease prevention initiatives in hard-to-reach areas of South Sudan.
Working alongside government partners, he helped expand access to quality health services in underserved communities — contributing to a significant reduction in infant mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases. He was also a persistent advocate for skilled birth attendance, helping improve maternal and child health outcomes.
A global citizen, Daniel earned his medical degree in Cuba in 2000, before immigrating to Canada; he went on to complete a Master's degree in Public Health in the Netherlands in 2016 and a Diploma in Community Service and Addiction. Drawing on this international experience and education, he is now focused on making a meaningful impact in his adopted community of Calgary, Alberta, through health administration, health promotion, and mental health management.
Beyond his professional work, Daniel serves as Head Coach of a basketball club for South Sudanese youth and is an active member of the Alberta International Medical Graduate Association.
